Led by Jason Brunette, the experienced team tackles projects ranging from build-to-suits to complete demo-and-rebuilds of corporate interior offices.
“We’re the advocate for our client and get involved early on,” said Brunette, MPD’s director of project management. “Our clients have their day job and they’re not expected to be construction experts. We’re the expert that manages the project on their behalf.”
For interior build-outs, Martin Property Development works with the client to establish the project budget and schedule. MPD selects the architect, manages the design process, consults on floor plans and construction documents, and oversees the competitive bidding process for general contractors. MPD also works with the clients to define the scope and bid out to vendors for data cabling, security, audio visual, furniture, and move, helping to further ensure a seamless transition to a new space.
Ground-up construction follows a similar model, with the added front end steps of finding and selecting a suitable site, potential rezoning, site plan and permit approvals. “MPD’s job is to make sure we worry about all the details so that our clients don’t have to. We can take the project from start to finish, ensuring the product that was promised. I take great pride in seeing all our projects through to completion” said Jason Brunette.
Brunette’s extensive experience in project management, construction and move management made him an ideal fit for Martin Property Development. He grew up around the industry and worked construction during high school. When it came time for college, Brunette earned his bachelor’s in physics from Furman University, and his master’s in civil engineering from North Carolina State University, specializing in construction engineering and management.
Prior to working with MPD, Brunette worked for a large general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie, in their healthcare division and worked as a project manager for CBRE in Atlanta. He managed construction for clients across the southeast and southwest, including Ernst & Young, McKesson and Shaw Industries Group, before coming to MPD in 2015.
All together, Brunette has managed over 100 projects across 17 states totaling more than $125 Million in project value. At Martin, he’s served as an owner’s representative for clients such as Tesa Tape, Sparrow Hospital Association, and the M3 Group, as well as the move manager for a large financial services firm for a 3,500 employee relocation. Recent interior build-outs include a 10,000-square foot space for an energy company in East Lansing, a 63,000-square foot project for a financial services company in Nashville, a 30,000-square foot project in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a 23,000-square foot project in Pittsburgh.
Brunette said he would like to see MPD build more ground-up development in the next five to 10 years. He also wants to diversify the business and build “bench strength” by adding new managers to handle more projects.
“I’ve always liked the industry,” Brunette said. “It’s fun to transform spaces, or to manage construction from the ground up. I like working with new people, different clients, and building relationships with local contractors. Every day is different, and there’s new challenges that push me to work harder.”
